USDA Issues Public Health Alert for Ineligible Imported Frozen Chicken Wings

USDA FSIS issued a public health alert for raw frozen chicken wings from China labeled with a false USDA mark. No recall was requested as the product is no longer in commerce.

What this means for you

Minor labeling or packaging issue, or a voluntary precautionary recall. Risk of harm is low but real — follow the manufacturer's instructions.

Our severity reasoning: The recall is classified as a public health alert due to mislabeling and lack of inspection, but no illnesses or injuries have been reported, and the product is no longer in commerce, fitting the criteria for a moderate severity precautionary action.

Plain-English summary

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert for raw frozen New Orleans - Roasted Chicken Wings imported from the People's Republic of China. The product, sold in 600-gram bags under the brand “Chicken Arrived, Organic Chicken,” was labeled with a false USDA mark of inspection bearing the establishment number “P-40478,” which does not exist. A formal recall was not requested because the known affected product is no longer available in commerce for consumers to purchase.

Di-Da Di-Da USA Corp., based in Saratoga, California, received and distributed the ineligible imported frozen chicken wings to U.S. commerce. The product was shipped to one retail location and subsequently distributed to 20 different retail locations in California, Oregon, and Washington. The issue was identified after a consumer complaint reported the suspected illegal import, leading FSIS to determine the product was ineligible and misbranded.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. FSIS is concerned that some product may still be in consumers’ freezers. Consumers who purchased the product should not consume it and should properly discard it. To reduce the possibility of animals accessing the product, consumers are asked to double bag the chicken wings when discarding them, as USDA cannot confirm whether the wings were properly heated to control pathogens of concern to domestic livestock.
