The recall was initiated after the problem was discovered during routine establishment testing, although the establishment released the product into commerce prematurely. FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Non-O157 Shiga toxin-producing E. coli can cause symptoms such as diarrhea (often bloody) and vomiting, and in rare cases, hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).
