Plain-English summary
C&S Wholesale Grocers, located in Westfield, Massachusetts, is recalling an undetermined amount of ready-to-eat and not-ready-to-eat meat and poultry products. The recall was initiated because the products were held at incorrect temperatures during transport, which may have allowed the growth of spoilage organisms or pathogens. The affected products were sold on June 17, 2019, at two Target retail stores in New York: one in Commack and one in Central Islip.
The temperature abuse could potentially result in the proliferation of Staphylococcus aureus, Shiga-toxin producing E. coli, Listeria monocytogenes, and Salmonella. The issue was discovered when the firm notified the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) that the product was inadvertently shipped into commerce after being held at incorrect temperatures. All remaining inventory of the recalled items has been removed from the stores and destroyed.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Consumers who purchased these specific items from the two affected Target stores are urged not to consume them. The products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase for a full refund in the form of a Target gift card. Consumers may contact Target Guest Relations at 1-800-440-0680 for assistance. Products purchased at any other Target store are not affected by this recall.
