Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development personnel informed the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) that they received two confirmed positive Lm results from retail product purchased at one of the bulk warehouse chain locations. Subsequent sampling of intact components by the bulk warehouse chain indicated that only the chicken component tested positive for Lm. FSIS and the company have received no reports of illnesses associated with the consumption of these products.

Consumption of food contaminated with Lm can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women and their newborns. Symptoms can include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions.
