Great Dane Recalls 2022 Trailers Due to Wheel Hub Lubrication Defect

Great Dane is recalling 2022 Champion and Everest trailers because insufficient wheel hub lubrication could cause bearing failure and loss of control.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (wheel hub assembly detachment) that could cause a loss of control and crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Great Dane Trailers is recalling certain 2022 Champion dry van and Everest refrigerated trailers. The recall addresses a defect where the wheel hubs may have an insufficient amount of lubrication.

This lack of lubrication could cause the hub bearings to fail. If the hub bearings fail, the wheel hub assembly could detach, leading to a loss of stability and control. This creates a road hazard and increases the risk of a crash.

Great Dane will work with SAF Holland, the wheel hub supplier, to inspect the wheel hubs and add the proper amount of lubricant as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on January 25, 2022. Owners may contact Great Dane customer service at 1-877-369-3493 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
