What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (fuel system) with a potential for fire and injury, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for significant injury reports or structural defects.
Plain-English summary
Cummins Inc. is recalling certain B6.7 Diesel Engines, part number D313029BX03, that are used in school buses, trucks, and emergency vehicles. These engines are equipped with fuel module option number FS90301 or FS90453. The recall involves 68,605 units.
The electric fuel heater within the fuel module may overheat, causing plastic components to melt and potentially catch fire. This defect may also lead to engine stalling, which increases the risk of a crash. A fire increases the risk of injury.
Cummins will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel heater with a newly designed fuel heater free of charge. The recall began on May 29, 2020, and supersedes recall 19E-020. Owners may contact Cummins customer service at 1-800-286-6467 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
