Forest River Recalls 2018 Crossfit Vehicles for Electrical Wiring Fire Risk

Forest River is recalling 2018 Crossfit vehicles because water can corrode wiring in the tow module, potentially causing an electrical short, fire, or crash.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (wiring corrosion) that explicitly increases the risk of fire and crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Forest River, Inc. is recalling certain 2018 Crossfit vehicles, specifically models CFB22CF, CFB22CFEB, and CFB22DF, built on a Ford Transit chassis equipped with a trailer tow module. The recall affects 10 vehicles.

Water can enter the tow modules and corrode the wiring. This corrosion can cause issues such as rapidly flashing turn signals, loss of the instrument panel display, an electrical short, and possibly the deployment of seatbelt pretensioners. An electrical short can increase the risk of a fire, while turn signal, instrument cluster, or seatbelt pretensioner problems can increase the risk of a crash.

Ford or Lincoln dealers will add a drainage hole in the driver's door stepwell and incorporate a fuse into the vehicle's wiring harness free of charge. The recall began on February 27, 2018. Owners may contact Forest River customer service at 1-574-825-8590 or Ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Forest River's number for this recall is 225-0647.
