Honda Recalls 2017 CR-V and Acura RDX for Fading Certification Labels
Honda is recalling 2017 CR-V and Acura RDX vehicles because certification labels may wipe away with alcohol solvents, potentially leading to vehicle overload.
What this means for you
Minor labeling or packaging issue, or a voluntary precautionary recall. Risk of harm is low but real — follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Our severity reasoning: The recall addresses a labeling defect that could theoretically lead to vehicle overload and increased crash risk, but no injuries or deaths are reported, fitting the criteria for moderate severity.
Plain-English summary
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017 Honda CR-V and Acura RDX vehicles. The recall addresses a defect where the Certification Labels on these vehicles were printed with ink that may be inadvertently wiped away when exposed to an alcohol solvent. This issue causes the vehicles to fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification."
If the label information is wiped away, the vehicle operator may be unable to refer to the necessary information. This lack of information could result in the vehicle being overloaded, which increases the risk of a crash. The recall began in June 2017.
Honda and Acura will notify owners, and dealers will replace the Certification Label free of charge. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's recall numbers are KF3 for the CR-V and KF4 for the RDX. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
