Micro Bird is recalling 2012-2017 MB II school buses because the roof may crush during a rollover, increasing injury risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (roof crush) that increases the risk of injury to occupants during a rollover, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Corp. Micro Bird Inc. is recalling certain 2012-2017 MB II school buses. The recall addresses a defect where the roof strength may be insufficient to prevent crushing in the event of a rollover. As a result, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 220, "School Bus Rollover Protection."

If the school bus roof crushes during a rollover, occupants have an increased risk of injury. The recall began on June 5, 2017, and supersedes recall 15V-683.

Micro Bird will notify owners, and dealers will modify the buses to prevent the roof from crushing, free of charge. Owners may contact Micro Bird customer service at 1-819-477-2012 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
