Kaufman Recalls 2015-2016 Mini Car Haulers Due to Spring Defect

Kaufman is recalling 2015-2016 Mini Car Haulers because a spring eye may break, allowing the axle to slide and potentially causing a crash.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (suspension/axle) that increases the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Kaufman Trailers Group, LLC. is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 FE-3/7K-44 Mini Car Haulers manufactured between January 1, 2015, and August 31, 2016. The recall affects 127 units.

On the affected trailers, the spring eye may break off the spring, which allows the axle to slide back and forth. If this occurs, the tires on that axle may contact the fenders or adjacent tires, potentially damaging the tires and increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace all springs on the affected trailers with a newly designed spring that features a thicker top leaf and a rubber bushing with a steel sleeve. The recall began on October 24, 2016. Owners may contact Kaufman at 1-336-790-2756 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
