Gillig Recalls 2010-2015 Low Floor Buses Due to Fire Risk

Gillig is recalling 2010-2015 Low Floor transit buses because a power cable may chafe a fuel line, increasing fire risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (wiring/fuel line interaction) that explicitly increases the risk of fire, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Gillig LLC is recalling certain model year 2010-2015 Low Floor transit buses manufactured between April 13, 2010, and June 12, 2015. The recall involves 6,971 vehicles.

The defect involves the routing of the grid heater electrical power cable, which may chafe against a fuel injector hard line. If the cable rubs against the fuel line, the cable may short circuit or the fuel line may leak fuel. Either possibility increases the risk of a fire.

Gillig will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the grid heater power cable and hard injector fuel line for wear. Dealers will also properly route and support the grid heater power cable free of charge. The recall began on July 17, 2015. Owners may contact Gillig customer service at 1-800-735-1500 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
