Autocar Recalls Xpert and XSpotter Vehicles for Engine Fire Risk

Autocar is recalling 2014-2016 Xpert and XSpotter vehicles because a vent tube defect may allow engine oil to contact hot surfaces, increasing fire risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (vent tube detachment) that creates a significant risk of fire, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Autocar Industries, LLC is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Xpert and XSpotter vehicles manufactured between September 24, 2013, and April 22, 2015. These vehicles are equipped with certain Cummins Westport ISL G engines. The recall affects 41 vehicles.

The defect involves excessive engine crankcase pressures that may cause the 90-degree elbow of the vent tube assembly to detach from the crankcase ventilation breather. This detachment may allow engine oil to come into contact with hot surfaces, which could increase the risk of a fire.

Cummins will notify owners on behalf of Autocar. Cummins service centers will administer the repairs free of charge, which include securing the ends of the 90-degree elbow and reprogramming the electronic control module (ECM) with software that adjusts engine output under misfire conditions to limit crankcase pressures. The recall began on June 16, 2015. Owners may contact Autocar customer service at 1-765-589-5499 or Cummins Inc. at 1-800-343-7357.
