Blue Bird Recalls 2015-2016 School Buses for Parking Brake Defect

Blue Bird is recalling 2015-2016 Vision and All American school buses because a defective parking brake pedal assembly may fail to engage, increasing crash risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (parking brake failure) that could lead to unexpected vehicle movement and crashes, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Blue Bird Body Company is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Vision and All American school buses manufactured between July 8, 2014, and September 22, 2014. These vehicles are equipped with hydraulic brakes and may have an incorrectly manufactured parking brake pedal assembly.

The defect could cause the parking brake pedal assembly to separate and bend, preventing the parking brake from engaging properly. If the parking brake does not engage, the vehicle may unexpectedly move, which increases the risk of a vehicle crash.

Blue Bird will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the date code on the parking brake pedal assembly and replace it if it is within the affected range, free of charge. The recall began on January 29, 2015. Owners may contact Blue Bird customer service at 1-478-822-2242 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
