What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a defect that may result in an increased risk of fire, which aligns with the rubric criterion for significant injury/property-damage reports or structural vehicle defects.

Plain-English summary

Iowa Mold Tooling Co., Inc. is recalling certain 2009-2014 model year Ford F-350 SD, F-450 SD, and F-550 SD trucks. The recall involves the Muncie PTO pressure switch, which may leak oil. This leaking oil can soak into the thermal blanket covering the exhaust system. When combined with heat from the exhaust, this condition may result in an increased risk of fire.

The recall is expected to begin in mid-July 2014, with specific corrective actions starting on July 28, 2014. Dealers will inspect the pressure switch to determine if it is from the range of defective switches. If required, the pressure switch assembly will be removed and a plug installed in the port, or a new pressure switch kit will be installed to move the switch away from the exhaust system. These repairs will be performed free of charge.

Owners may contact Iowa Mold Tooling Co., Inc. at 1-800-247-5958 for additional information. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
