Dutchmen Recalls 2013 Coleman Travel Trailers Due to Propane Line Defect
Dutchmen is recalling 2013 Coleman and Dutchmen travel trailers because the propane line may be damaged by the rear axle, posing a fire or explosion risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (propane line proximity to axle) that poses a risk of fire, explosion, and property damage, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Dutchmen Manufacturing, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2013 Coleman 192 and Dutchmen 196 recreational vehicles manufactured between April 12, 2012, and July 9, 2012. The recall involves 87 units where the propane line is located in close proximity to the rear axle hanger.
The defect allows the rear axle hanger bolt to potentially damage the propane line during travel. If the line is damaged, a leak could develop. In the presence of an ignition source, this leak could result in a fire and/or explosion, increasing the risk of personal injury or property damage.
Dutchmen will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, replace and re-route the propane line free of charge. The safety recall began on August 18, 2012. Owners may contact Dutchmen at 1-574-537-0700 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
