Forest River Surveyor Travel Trailer Recall for LP Gas Line Defect

Forest River is recalling 2012-2013 Surveyor travel trailers because the liquid propane gas line may be pinched by the axle, potentially causing a leak, fire, or injury.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (LP gas line pinch) with a stated consequence of fire, injury, or death, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural vehicle defects or significant injury reports.

Plain-English summary

Forest River, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2012 and 2013 Surveyor travel trailers manufactured between August 12, 2011, and April 6, 2012. The recall affects specific floor plans where the liquid propane (LP) gas line was routed and fastened along the bottom of the frame rail.

On these affected trailers, the positioning of the LP gas line may allow the "U" bolt on the axle to pinch the line between the main rail and the bolt when the trailer hits a bump. This pinch can cause the line to break and leak LP gas, which may result in fire, injury, or death.

Forest River will notify owners, and dealers will re-route the LP line free of charge. The recall began in May 2012. Owners may contact Forest River at 1-574-389-4600 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
