Timken is recalling front wheel hubs that may be mistakenly installed on 4x2 Jeep Liberty vehicles, posing a risk of wheel separation and crash.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where improper installation can lead to front wheel separation and a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Timken Corporation is recalling certain non-formed front wheel hubs, part number HA599467, sold to retail and automotive distributors for use on 2002 through 2005, 4X4, non-ABS Jeep Liberty vehicles. These hubs are designed specifically for 4X4 models and can be mistakenly sold to owners and installed on 4X2 versions of the Jeep Liberty.

If the non-formed hub unit is installed on a Jeep Liberty 4x2 model, which does not use an axle nut for hub retention, the vehicle wheel will not be secure. This condition may result in front wheel separation, increasing the risk of a crash.

Timken has notified retail stores that received the subject parts. The front wheel hubs will be replaced free of charge. Owners who may have purchased the affected units should contact Timken at 1-330-471-3693 for more information. This recall is being conducted by Timken, not Chrysler/Jeep.
