Webasto Sunroof Glass Debonding Recall for Key Auto Service Vehicles
Webasto is recalling certain sunroofs installed by Key Auto Service because the glass can separate from the frame, creating a road hazard.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where the sunroof glass can separate, posing a risk of striking a trailing vehicle and causing a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural defects and significant injury/property-damage reports.
Plain-English summary
Webasto Product North America, Inc. is recalling certain Hollandia 700 and 600 series and Hollandia TVS 900 series sunroofs. These units were installed as original equipment by Key Auto Service on various passenger vehicles. The recall involves 84 affected units.
The defect involves the adhesive bond between the sunroof glass and the metal frame, which can debond. This increases the risk that the sunroof glass would separate from the vehicle. Signs of gradual debonding may include metal corrosion around the frame, wind noise, vibration, visual bond separation, or water leakage.
If the glass separates, the falling glass could create a road hazard or strike a trailing vehicle, potentially causing a crash. Webasto will perform the safety recall campaign. Owners with affected sunroofs will receive a safety recall notice from Webasto. The recall began on October 8, 2010. To determine if a vehicle is affected, owners can review the affected vehicle list provided by Key Auto Service or visit Webasto's website at www.sunroofcheck.com. Owners can also call Webasto toll-free at 1-888-749-8632.
