Fairplay Recalls 2010-2011 EVE LSV Electric Vehicles for Fire Risk

Fairplay is recalling 2010-2011 EVE LSV electric vehicles because a missing fuse in the 12V circuit could cause a short circuit and fire.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (electrical wiring) that poses a risk of fire, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for significant injury/property-damage reports or structural defects.

Plain-English summary

Fairplay Electric Cars is recalling certain model year 2010 and 2011 EVE LSV electric low-speed vehicles manufactured between July 31, 2009, and December 27, 2010. The recall involves 1,621 vehicles.

The defect involves the electrical wiring harness. A fuse specified for the 12V accessory circuit was not built into the wiring harness, and the fuse value on the input to the voltage reducer was too large to prevent possible damage. Consequently, no fuse was inserted in the 12-volt circuit.

Without this fuse for protection, a short in any portion of the 12V wiring can melt wire insulation and pose the risk of a fire. Fairplay will notify owners, and dealers will repair the vehicles free of charge. The safety recall began on February 22, 2011. Owners may contact Fairplay at 1-866-557-0342 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
