Keystone Recalls 2010-2011 Travel Trailers Due to Hitch Coupler Defect
Keystone is recalling 2010-2011 Laredo, Cougar, and Outback travel trailers because a hitch coupler defect may increase the risk of trailer separation.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (hitch coupler) that poses a risk of trailer separation, which the source text states could result in property damage and/or a vehicle crash.
Plain-English summary
Keystone RV Company is recalling certain model year 2010-2011 Laredo, Cougar, and Outback travel trailers. The recall involves trailers equipped with Lippert component hitch couplers that lack a required indentation on the forward edge of the coupler.
If the coupler lacks this indentation, it may lead to an increased risk of the trailer separating from the hitch ball while towing. This separation could result in property damage and/or a vehicle crash.
Owners are asked to inspect the hitch coupler for the correct stamping. If the hitch coupler is not formed correctly, arrangements will be made to replace it free of charge. The safety recall began on January 24, 2011. Owners may contact Keystone Customer Service at 1-866-425-4369 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
