NABI Recalls 2009 416 Buses Due to Steering Gear Weld Defect

North American Bus Industries, Inc. (NABI) is recalling certain model year 2009 416 standard model floor city transit buses. The vehicles were manufactured between October 30, 2008, and December 18, 2009. A total of 226 vehicles are affected by this recall.
The recall is due to a defect in the mounting plate that holds the steering gear assembly. The plate may not have been sufficiently welded. An insufficient weld could lead to a separation or partial separation of the plate, which may cause the driver to lose proper steering control of the vehicle, possibly resulting in a crash.
NABI will notify owners and repair the vehicles free of charge. The safety recall began on January 26, 2010. Owners may contact NABI customer service at 1-256-831-4296 ext. 1308.
