What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a vehicle defect that may cause a fire, which aligns with the rubric criterion for 'significant injury/property-damage reports' or structural/functional defects posing serious risk.
Plain-English summary
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2006 and 2007 Ridgeline vehicles manufactured between January 17, 2005, and June 7, 2006. The recall involves approximately 76,000 vehicles.
The defect involves a wiring harness connector for the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) blower motor located under the passenger side of the instrument panel. This connector may be accessible to kicking by the front seat passenger's feet. If kicked, the connector terminal may overheat, causing the wire insulation or the wiring connector to melt. If the melted insulation exposes wires that make contact with each other, a short circuit may occur, which may cause a fire.
Dealers will inspect the vehicles and, if the wiring connector is damaged, replace it. All vehicles will have a protective cover installed free of charge. The safety recall began on March 15, 2010. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
