LUXE+WILLOW Heated Blankets Recalled Due to Fire and Burn Hazards

MWA LLC is recalling about 4,200 LUXE+WILLOW heated blankets sold nationwide from January to March 2022 because the blanket can overheat if left plugged in and powered on for extended periods, creating fire and burn hazards.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: Three injury reports exist, including a documented burn and observation of flames, which constitute direct evidence of harm. Although no deaths are documented and this is not a Class I recall, the combination of confirmed injuries and the risk-of-harm nature of the product (fire and burn hazards) meets the threshold for High severity.

Plain-English summary

MWA LLC, of New York, is recalling about 4,200 LUXE+WILLOW Heated Blankets. The blankets are white 50-inch by 50-inch polyester blankets with Sherpa lining, branded as LUXE+WILLOW and L&W BIO. They were sold nationwide at T.J. Maxx, Urban Outfitters, and other stores from January 2022 through March 2022 for about $40.

The blanket can overheat if left plugged in and powered on for an extended period of time, posing fire and burn hazards. The firm has received three reports of the blankets overheating, including one report of a burn to a consumer's wrist and one report of a consumer seeing flames.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled electric blanket and contact MWA for a full refund or $50 voucher towards another LUXE+WILLOW product. Consumers should unplug the electric blanket, cut the electrical cord, and submit a photo of the blanket's cut cord and labeling to [email protected] as proof of destruction. After submitting proof of destruction, consumers should dispose of the recalled blanket. The firm is contacting all known purchasers directly.
