What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Plain-English summary

Ameriwood Home is recalling approximately 1.6 million Mainstays four-drawer chests of drawers due to serious tip-over and entrapment hazards. The recalled units are unstable if not anchored to the wall and do not comply with the U.S. voluntary industry standard ASTM F2057-14. The chests are made of composite wood and were sold in six colors: alder, black forest, white, weathered oak, walnut, and ruby red. Specific model numbers are listed in the source text and printed on the instruction manual.

The products were sold at Walmart stores and other retailers nationwide and online at Walmart.com from April 2009 through May 2016 for about $60. An additional 1,000 units were sold in Canada. CPSC has received one report of an injury after a chest of drawers tipped over onto a four-year-old child.

Consumers should immediately stop using any recalled chest that is not properly anchored to the wall and place it in an area where children cannot access it. Ameriwood is offering a free repair kit that includes a wall anchoring device and feet for the unit. Consumers can contact Ameriwood toll-free at 877-222-7460 or visit www.Ameriwood.com for assistance.
