Baja Motorsports is reannouncing a recall for approximately 4,300 DR50 and DR70 Baja dirt bikes. This recall was originally announced in March 2011 and involves specific models with vehicle identification numbers (VIN) beginning with "L98," having the letter "B" as the 10th character, and marked with a yellow dot or line on or near the VIN. The model number and VIN are located on the product data plate on the side of the "goose neck," where the handlebars meet the body of the bike.

The recall is prompted by the risk that the fuel tank can leak, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers. The company has received 16 reports of fires resulting from leaking fuel. These incidents include two reports of minor burns to consumers' legs and one report of a minor burn to a consumer's finger. Ten of these reported incidents, including two of the burn injuries, were received after the initial March 2011 recall announcement.

The affected dirt bikes were sold at Pep Boys and other motor sports stores nationwide from December 2010 through January 2012 for between $450 and $650. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled dirt bikes and contact Baja Motorsports to schedule a free repair.
