Huffy Recalls 2007 Howler and Highland Bicycles Due to Crank Failure

Huffy Corp. is recalling approximately 22,000 units of 2007 model year "Howler" and "Highland" multi-speed bicycles. The recall involves bicycles with 26-inch, 24-inch, or 20-inch wheels. The "Howler" was sold in black, blue, and red, while the "Highland" was sold in white and blue. The model names are printed on the frame, and the "Huffy" brand name is located on the front of the frame. Model numbers are found on a label on the bottom of the frame where the crank is attached.

The recall is due to a defect where the bicycle crank can unexpectedly come off. This failure can cause the rider to lose control of the bike, resulting in a fall and serious injuries. Huffy has received two reports of the crank coming off, which resulted in one injury.

These bicycles were sold at Kmart stores nationwide from May 2007 through July 2007 for between $80 and $100. Consumers should stop using the recalled bicycles immediately and contact Huffy Corp. to receive instructions on tightening the crank.
