Roto Zip Tool Corporation is recalling approximately 1.9 million RotoZip handheld saws, including the Revolution, Rebel, and Solaris models. The recall is being conducted because the handles on these tools can separate from the body, which can cause the operator to be cut.
The recalled saws were sold nationwide at home, hardware, and department stores, and via infomercials from December 1999 through January 2002 for between $50 and $190. The tools are mostly black or red and feature the brand name and "ROTOZIP SPIRAL SAW" written on the side. Specific serial number ranges are affected: Revolution (01 through 1,145,000), Rebel (01 through 415,000), and Solaris (01 through 270,000).
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Roto Zip Tool Corp. have received 360 reports of loose or separating handles, resulting in 19 reported injuries, including some cuts requiring stitches. Consumers should check their saws for a loose fit between the handle and the body. If the handle is loose, they should remove it and contact Roto Zip Tool Corp. to receive a free replacement handle.
