Plain-English summary

LTD Commodities Inc. is recalling approximately 33,000 Snowman Holiday Porcelain Lanterns. The recall is due to a fire and burn hazard caused by excessive heat from the tealight candles used inside the lanterns. This heat can cause the porcelain to crack or catch fire.

The recalled lanterns are shaped like a snowman with a white body, brown tree-limb-like arms, an orange nose, and a black hat. They feature holes in the body, face, and hat through which the candle light is visible. The product code number is HVO-MAN 102723-01, and the bottom label reads "WARNING: This item becomes extremely hot during use" and "MADE IN CHINA." LTD Commodities sold these lanterns through mail-order catalogs between September 2001 and November 2001 for about $4 each.

LTD Commodities has received 18 reports of the lanterns cracking or catching fire, including one report of a consumer suffering a burn to her finger. Consumers should stop using these lanterns immediately and contact LTD Commodities toll-free at (866) 736-3654 between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. CT, Monday through Friday, for a full refund.
