What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural defect in a gas appliance that poses a risk of house fires and has resulted in reported burn injuries, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Jade Products Inc. is recalling approximately 3,300 Dynasty gas ranges, model numbers DGRSC and DGR(c), with serial numbers from 050198-A through 280200-Z. The recall was initiated because the igniters are positioned too far from the burners, which can result in a delayed ignition of gas. This delay allows a large amount of gas to accumulate, potentially causing fire to escape from the oven when the gas finally ignites.

The hazard poses a risk of burn injuries and house fires. Jade Products has received three reports of minor burn injuries occurring when consumers opened the oven door just as the gas ignited and flames escaped. The affected ranges are 30, 36, 48, or 60 inches wide, and the word "Dynasty" is printed on the lower right corner of the oven door. The serial plate is located under the right burner grate support on model DGRSC and under the left burner grate on model DGR(c).

These ranges were sold nationwide at department and appliance stores from January 1998 through February 2000 for between $2,900 and $8,900. A remedy is no longer available for this recalled product. Consumers should stop using the ranges and dispose of them. For more information, consumers can call the CPSC hotline at 800-638-2772 (TTY 301-595-7054).
