RockShox Recalls 2001 Bicycle Forks Due to Compression Rod Breakage

RockShox Inc. is recalling approximately 220,000 2001 Judy TT, Judy TT Special, Jett, and Metro model front suspension bicycle forks. The recall is due to a defect where the compression rods inside the forks can break. This failure can cause the rider to lose control of the bicycle, resulting in a fall and potential serious injuries.

RockShox received 23 reports of compression rods breaking in these forks and two reports of injuries. The reported injuries included a concussion, a sprained wrist, scrapes, and bruises. The affected forks have serial numbers beginning with "01," which are engraved on the back side of the fork's crown and on a bar code sticker attached to the fork's lower leg. The brand name "RockShox" and the specific model name are written on the forks.

These forks were sold as original equipment on numerous brands and models of bicycles, as well as separately, by bicycle dealers nationwide from July 2000 through October 2000. Bicycles equipped with these forks sold for between $399 and $1,300, while the forks alone sold for between $89 and $149. Consumers should stop riding bicycles with the recalled forks immediately and return them to the bicycle dealer where purchased for inspection and repair if needed.
