Yamaha Golf Car Vehicles Recalled for Brake Failure Risk

Yamaha is recalling about 4,300 model year 2017-2024 golf cars that can fail to brake, posing a risk of serious injury or death in crashes.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall addresses a structural vehicle defect (brake failure) with potential for serious injury or death. However, no injuries or deaths have been reported, and the hazard remains theoretical, so per the rubric it scores at most 3 (High).

Plain-English summary

This recall covers model year 2017-2024 Yamaha golf car vehicles (DR2A and DR2E models) sold by authorized Yamaha dealers nationwide between June 2018 and July 2025. Approximately 4,300 vehicles are affected. The affected vehicles have serial numbers beginning with J0D, J0E, or J2D, which are located on the handlebars on the left side of the rear row of seats.

The recalled vehicles can fail to brake, creating a risk of serious injury or death in the event of a crash. No injuries or deaths have been reported to date.

Owners of affected vehicles should immediately stop using them and contact an authorized Yamaha Golf Car dealer to schedule a free installation of new brake shoes and pads. For customers unable to bring their vehicle to a dealer, Yamaha will provide transportation or arrange to install the replacement parts at the vehicle's location.
