Boost The Mood Ceramic Mugs Recalled Due to Fire Hazard
Ceramic mugs labeled "microwave safe" can spark and catch fire when microwaved due to metallic print. About 26,400 units were sold at Ulta Beauty stores and online from October 2022 through March 2023.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (fire hazard from sparking metallic print) with one report of observed smoking during microwaving. Although no burn injury or property damage has been reported, the hazard poses a direct risk of fire. This meets the High threshold for products with injury risk but no confirmed serious injury.
Plain-English summary
Michael Giordano International Inc. is recalling about 26,400 Boost The Mood ceramic mugs due to a fire hazard. The 10-ounce mugs, which are navy blue with a gold metallic handle and "Boost The Mood" in gold lettering, are mislabeled as microwave safe. When microwaved, the metallic print on the mug can spark, posing a fire hazard.
The mugs were sold exclusively at Ulta Beauty stores nationwide and online at www.ulta.com as part of a promotional set that also included socks, hand cream, and foot cream. The promotional sets were sold from October 2022 through March 2023 for about $16. A white round label on the bottom of the mug describes it as "microwave safe." Only the mug is affected by this recall.
The firm has received one report of a mug smoking while microwaving. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled mugs and contact Michael Giordano International for a $10 cash refund. The manufacturer can be reached toll-free at 833-870-6579 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, by email at [email protected], or online at www.ceramicmugrecall.com.
