Plain-English summary
Velocita has recalled 48,000 lithium-ion battery packs sold with its V1 and V2 e-bike models. The CPSC has received 27 reports of the batteries overheating, smoking, or catching fire during charging. Four consumers have reported minor burn injuries; two house fires have been documented.
The batteries can be identified by the lot code printed on the underside of the pack. Consumers should immediately stop using and charging the affected batteries and contact Velocita for a free replacement. The company will provide a pre-paid shipping container designed for safe lithium-ion battery return.
E-bikes themselves do not need to be returned. New batteries will ship from a different cell supplier with revised battery-management firmware.
