Hover-1 Superfly Hoverboards Recalled Due to Fall and Injury Hazards
DGL Group is recalling approximately 93,000 Hover-1 Superfly Hoverboards sold between October 2020 and October 2021 at Best Buy due to a software malfunction that causes uncontrolled momentum when the rider is not actively controlling the board.
What this means for you
Minor labeling or packaging issue, or a voluntary precautionary recall. Risk of harm is low but real — follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Our severity reasoning: Four minor injuries have been reported in association with the software malfunction. This falls below the threshold for High severity, which would require allergen mislabeling, high-risk pathogens, or significant injury reports. The hazard is real and injuries occurred, placing this above Low but in the Moderate range.
Plain-English summary
DGL Group LTD. of Edison, New Jersey, is recalling approximately 93,000 model year 2020 Hover-1 Superfly Hoverboards (model H1-SPFY). The hoverboards were sold in black with blue LED lights and were available at Best Buy stores nationwide and at Bestbuy.com from October 2020 through October 2021 for approximately $200.
A software malfunction in the electrical system can cause the motor to continue providing assistance when the rider is not actively controlling the hoverboard. This malfunction results in continued momentum, posing fall and injury hazards to riders. The firm has received 29 reports of the software issue, with four minor injuries reported.
Affected hoverboards have serial numbers on the bottom beginning with SPFY-BLK-GO-2008, SPFY-BLK-GO-2009, or SPFY-BLK-GO-2010. A warning label reading "H1-SPFY" can be found at the bottom right of the board next to the serial number.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled hoverboards and contact DGL Group for instructions on how to ship affected units to an authorized repair shop free of charge.
